It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Christmas will be here before we can blink.  Don't know when I'll get everything done.  Between Christmas plays at church, plays at school, parties,  special events, parades, decorating and shopping, I don't know when I'm going to sit back and enjoy the season.  Watching the kiddos in my class, who are so excited about Christmas, puts a smile on my face.  We are counting down to the big day!  It is a question I get daily from my 4 and 5 year olds.  We have a lot going on in the next few weeks.  We have Milk and Cookies with Moms, Grinch Day, and our Christmas Party (I think Santa will be showing up!)  Still trying to get lots of learning in before the holidays though.

Where does the time go?

October has come and gone with hardly a post!  Where do people find the time?  With teaching all day and kids to run to all kinds of events in the afternoon, supper to fix and homework to help with--I rarely sit down at my computer.  Maybe things will slow down with thanksgiving approaching.  I'm ready for one "sleep late day".  Here are some of the fun things we did in our classroom in October.
Five Little Pumpkins was our poem during the week we studied "Number 5"

These are our fabulously vibrant pumpkins.  I had found a diecut I loved and we got our inspiration from it!

We made H-H-Haunted H-H-House glyphs for our "H" week which happened to bee the week before Halloween.  I couldn't have planned that better!

A class favorite every year is Spookly, The Square Pumpkin .  After we read it we made our own colorful pumpkin patch complete with a square pumpkin.  This is a great activity for me to review and assess shapes and colors.

Finally Posting!

Wow!  I always forget how crazy the first few weeks of school are, especially with little ones.  Not only am I working on routines with my little ones in my class, but also trying to get back in the routine with my own girls.  Add to that we moved the third week of school!  What was I thinking??  Everyone is getting settled now and I can finally post some the fun things we are doing in my PreK this year.

We started the year off with monsters because my theme this year is monsters.  (I change every few years because I get bored easily.) Here are some pictures of our room and the monster glyph we did to start our math!  I have some smart and creative PreKers!!

First Week of School

We finally finished our first week of school and I feel like its a blur.  It went so fast! The theme in my room this year is Monsters and we have so much fun with our furry friends! We are still learning all the rules and procedures. It's been a little crazy.  I'm also moving next week to a new house and trying to get my 6th grader and 3rd graders settled into their year.  Wow!  I might take a breath in October!

I always love the start of school.  It's a fresh beginning and everything is new!  I've been gathering new ideas all summer and now I get to try them out.

We made the Big Green Monster with our handprints the first day.

Great Idea from fellow teachers

When I first started thinking about doing this blog, I was only thinking about communicating with other teachers.  Then I began looking at other blogs and realized that teachers were using this as a way for the parents to see what was going on in the classroom.  Now I will be inviting the parents to follow and see what their child is learning.  It is easier than putting a newletter together every week and  like they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words."  Pictures will be coming soon.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog that is especially for primary teachers.  I love reading other teachers' blogs because they have some wonderful ideas. Many times I take the ideas and just change the content to fit our classroom.  Hopefully this blog will inspire you in your teaching!

About

My name is Allison Covington and I have been teaching for 17 years.  I have taught First grade, Kindergarten and I am currently teaching Pre-K. I am married to a fabulous man and we have two beautiful daughters. We have recently adopted a very active but adorable boxer from our local pound.

I am so blessed to have a job that I love so much.  I really enjoy thinking of new ideas and trying them out on my students.  All the ladies I teach with bring their strengths to the table everyday and together we make a  fantastic team!!

Here are some pictures of my classroom at the beginning of the year.  My room is pretty small so I use every available space and try to stay very organized.
