We just finished our Vegetable Week for the letter "V".  We made vegetable soup and tasted lots of different vegetables--with Ranch dressing of course!.  We planted some seed of our favorite vegetables and now we are waiting and watching closely for them to sprout.  I will have to share some of those pictures later.  As it gets toward the end of school, I have to come up with some fun ways to keep them motivated.  We play lots of independent and small group learning games.  They are having fun while learning the skill I need to teach.  I put all the skills we used this week into a unit and I have posted it on TeachersPay Teachers!

These are our Art bags.  We make one each month to take all our art projects home.

St. Patrick's Day is over and now we are on to Easter Bunnies!  These next few weeks get a little crazy because we are screening new kiddos for next year!  Here are some of the things we did in our room for St. Patrick's Day.

We made "WANTED" posters for the leprechauns and then we set traps to try to catch them!

We made leprechaun glyphs.  The kids did a great job and were so exctited to show them to our grandparents on Grandparent's Day.  Yes, we had that too this week!  I told you it was crazy!

We are playing the "Starburst" game for "S" week.  It is bulletin board border taped together for the gameboard.  They roll two dice and add the numbers together.  They move to that number.  They take turns until one person reaches the end.  They use Starburst candy for game pieces. They love it when we finish math time and they get to eat their game pieces!

I just love Valentine's Day at school.  Everything is purple, pink and red!  The kiddos are full of love for each other and are super excited about giving out their valentines.  We made HUGE envelopes to put all of our Valentines in.  I sent home paper hearts earlier last week and had their parents write what they love about their child one them and send them back.  After we read them out loud to the class (the kids were beaming!), we glued them on their Valentine envelopes.  Everyone feels very loved.  Especially me!  In PreK hugs are the norm on most days with extra ones on Valentines.  All of my little ones are so precious!!

Queen of Hearts

February is here!  That means hearts, hearts, everywhere!!  I love this time of year.  My classroom is decorated in pinks, purples, red and of course, LOTS of hearts.  Once I teach my kiddos how to fold and cut out hearts, they go crazy making hearts to stick all over.  They make them in the art center, at the writing center and during free time.

Obviously at this time of year we use (and eat) tons of those candy conversation hearts.  I have the parents send in bags so we have plenty.  I stock the math center with them, we use them with our group work and they make terrific rewards.

We are making patterns with our candy hearts.  They get to decide what patterns they would like to try.

It just so happens that every year our "Q" week falls in February. ( I love it when things work out like that.) We do lot of activties with the nursery rhyme "The Queen of Hearts".  This is a story problem that we made when we rewrote the poem.  Later this week they will write and illustrate their own.

My "Queen of Hearts" unit can be found at my store on http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/

Here is an way we use the hearts we are learning how to cut out.  My Calendar Coach for the day cuts out at heart and writes the date on it.  Then we put it on our calendar.  In my room the children do a lot of the work themselves.

Pigs and Pizza--It must be "P" week

Each week we study a different letter and this week was "P" week.  We have had so much fun learning about Pigs and Pizza this week. There are so many pizza songs out there!  We have acted out The Three Little Pigs and shared which pig we would like to be.  We have made "pigs in a blanket" ---so Yummy!--- and played the "pig in a blanket" game!  We are ending our week with a Pajama Pizza Party!!

I uploaded my Pizza and Pigs unit to TeachersPayTeachers, so go take a look!

I'm headed outside to enjoy this lovely 80 degree weather we are having in February!!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Christmas will be here before we can blink.  Don't know when I'll get everything done.  Between Christmas plays at church, plays at school, parties,  special events, parades, decorating and shopping, I don't know when I'm going to sit back and enjoy the season.  Watching the kiddos in my class, who are so excited about Christmas, puts a smile on my face.  We are counting down to the big day!  It is a question I get daily from my 4 and 5 year olds.  We have a lot going on in the next few weeks.  We have Milk and Cookies with Moms, Grinch Day, and our Christmas Party (I think Santa will be showing up!)  Still trying to get lots of learning in before the holidays though.
